For home-educating families

The homeschool hub

Whether you’re just wondering about home education or you’ve been doing it for years, this is our collection of plain-English guides, gentle routines and printables for the early years.

Your right to home educate

Home education is legal across the UK. Parents must make sure their child gets a suitable, full-time education, “at school or otherwise”. You don’t need to follow the National Curriculum, keep school hours or be a teacher. In England and Wales, the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 adds “children not in school” registers once it comes into force.

England

Education Act 1996, s.7

Write to the head teacher to deregister. No permission needed, except for children covered by the new consent rules (on a child protection plan or at a special school).
